EMERGENCY: My laptop keeps shutting down randomly, how do I

Postby Koobeton » Mon Feb 08, 2010 1:58 pm

I tried up update my anti virus, which in return corrupted all of my drivers for mouse keyboard and back up hard drive. So I put in the only disc that came with the computer and was going to reinstall them, but it was a recovery disc. While it was doing whatever I noticed it said backing up files. When I got into the computer ....everything was gone.... So my question is... Is there any way possible to get any information back? At the moment there's something wrong that it won't even let my USB wireless internet to connect, so I can't download anything. You always hear that even though something is deleted it can still be found....is that the case here too? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

All information on a computer can be brought back but it can sometimes be far and beyond the capabilities of the average computer tech. The police can send people computers off for examination and pull up files and pictures that have been deleted.

I expect if they have gone and this was down to a virus you won't have a lot of chance recovering them. I would expect you will need to completely reinstall everything from scratch including your windows program (reformatting). It's a safe option for making sure the virus has gone for good.

This happened to me twice over the last 5 years or more and is really frustrating.

I agree with Carol on this and if you can afford to lose the data a complete re-install would be the safest option.
