Filthy takeaways

Postby P&A Services Ltd » Wed Feb 24, 2010 12:46 pm

Was having a quick look through the website for our local paper and ran across this story
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1193533_food_boss_spared_jail_over_filthy_takeaway
I personally think the guy got off really lightly.

The sad thing is i can think of a few places i suspect are almost as bad.
Made me laugh that part of his defence was basically 'i'm in debt'! Maybe you'd have more business if you're place was clean and healthy!

He did get off lightly didnt he really?

It makes me sick to think of places like that and I really hope places are spot checked regular enough for it to not be a recurring thing! It sounds just awful to me!

The problem with dirty kitchens is they get closed down in the end but can move somewhere else and start a new business.

That is disgusting. He got off very lightly. What did diabetes have to do with his defence? No connection that I can see!
Do other towns have a scores on the doors system? I know that here they do checks on restaurants, takeaways etc. and stars are awarded for hygiene or lack of it and results published in the local paper and a sticker put on the door of the establishment with the star rating. A huge incentive.

Im not sure if they do or dont so this anywhere else but it definitely sounds like a good thing to me and something that should be considered! Perhaps there should also be a blacklist of people - this way if they go ahead and open something else perhaps better checks could be kept on them or there could be conditions or something you know>?

To be honest the biggest problem around here is that there are so many takeaways, restaurants, etc. that the EHO's can't get around them all often enough.

Every now and then one or two get flagged up and dealt with but it can be years between visits sometimes and in that time standards can slip dramatically!

I know they now do what is called scores on the doors in Stockport and it was worrying at some of the places like care homes that had to improve, i feel it will slowly help to hopefully raise standards, but there are always going to be people who skimp out to save money whilst risking their customers health.
