Even though we have such massive food wastage what is the answer? It's not as if we could send the food over to them before it goes off. Maybe a system could be brought in where we could buy items of the best before date but still within healthy eating guidelines. This way they could auto calculate the difference and send it to registered charities. This could even show on the till receipt and could encourage people to shop at participating stores.
Just a thought.

That sounds an idea Stu, and the food could be heavily discounted. Many families on the breadline might be glad of it. Some money to charity is better than acceptable food ending up in the bins. However, supermarkets might view it as a loss to their normal priced food sales.
